    Ellie update

Well the prednisone or the Pepcid made her throw up the little she ate Friday night and Saturday night. Today I just gave her a pain pill. She has totally stopped eating. She is drinking water but not much. (No throwing up today). The oncologist only works Wednesday so I called the after hours service and their only option was to hospitalize with an IV. I am not doing that she hates being there for 15 min. I would not leave her there. I gave her some yogurt and turkey sweet potato baby food though a syringe but i know its not near enough. She still did her walks but she is so slow. I am calling her holistic vet in the morning but I feel the Drs have given up hope at this point. I took her on a ride and she put her nose out like she always does and the thought she had some happiness makes me want to keep her going. And of course because she is my whole life. My thought is keep her going until Wednesday then take her to the oncologist. I don't know I don't know.

I wish I could give you the answer, but only you will know. Enjoy every second, minute and day with her.
    Good thoughts your way

It was probably the pred that upset her stomach. The Pepcid has to be given 20 minutes to an hour before the pred. Ask if you can or should crush the pepcid, maybe giving it in a syringe of liquid. It is okay to syringe feed a hospiced or otherwise ill pet. The retriever mix was not ready to give up, and he leaned into the feedings for a couple weeks. Eating any other way was just too much for him, but for that time he was hungry to eat some way. Then one day nothing much helped, not even fluids given at home.

You are both in my prayers at this hard time.

I am really sorry. Could you ask your vet to give her IV fluids at home?

The vet hospital may be able to give a quick bolus of fluids, subcutaneously, then show you how to administer them at home. We gave them in the loose skin over the withers/shoulders

So sorry to see you go through this. Labs are so stoic, it's real hard to tell how they are feeling sometimes. Out thoughts and prayers are with you.

I don't have much to add, but I'm so sorry you're going through this. We'll all go through it at one point or another, and it's never going to be easy. Hugs to you and Ellie.
