    Update on our Brownie

We have had Brownie 6 weeks now and she will be one year old in May.
The previous owners never revealed anything about her to us other than to say they had problems with her chewing things, and she never had any shots.
I will try to get a few pictures on here soon, as I will be laid up for a few weeks and will have a little free time. (hernia surgery)
I am happy to say that Brownie is doing excellent for the most part. The only real problem we have anymore is socializing........ she wants no part of it!
Brownie does not like meeting people at all and will crawl under a chair or hide somewhere when someone walks into the room.
We went to the vet Monday for her rabies booster and lymes vaccine, and when we went in she was greeted by 2 other dogs and it was a tense few seconds while both parties wondered how their dogs would respond as they said their dogs had not been exposed to other dogs either ~ but that part went fine. When my wife and I sat down Brownie tried to crawl under my chair, but when I told her to sit she sat next to me panting and shaking terribly. The one bright spot was when we got up to take her into the exam room. As Brownie and I started for the door a little girl less than 2 years old suddenly stepped in front of Brownie and started petting her on the nose. Brownie simply stopped and let the little girl pet her while I reassured her it was ok. It is really a struggle to see a chocolate lab so afraid to meet new people. My wifes sister stops over after work a couple times a week and Brownie is slowly getting to know her but it takes a few minutes before she will go close enough to let her pet her.
As far as the kennel goes... she simply hates being penned up.
The previous owner said they had problems with Brownie chewing things, but she has never chewed anything other than the chew toys we give her.....
so after talking things over we decided to try leaving Brownie out of her kennel. So a couple weeks ago I folded the kennel up and carried it downstairs.
About once a week we will find one of my wifes crocs or one of her tennis shoes mysteriously moved from the rug to the living room next to Brownies pillow, but she has never chewed on them or even untied a shoe string.

    Slowly plugging along
    Ron

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear Brownie is settling in. Funny how the shoes mysteriously move on their own

Great update! Brownie will slowly come out of her shell. Do be careful about the shoes. One day she might decide to start chewing and besides the loss of a shoe, she might swallow parts that could cause problems. Better they are in a closet.

Slow and steady is the way to socialize her. Be cautious that you don't push her too hard as she might react with fear aggression. It's not her fault, she's afraid and needs time to adjust.

Good luck. Looking forward to the pictures.

Glad to hear she is making progress. Have you concidered giving her an old shirt with your scent on it. Maybe she would stop going after the shoes.

Good luck with your surgery. And wish you a speedy recovery.

    Looking forward to some pictures

Poor Brownie...it sounds like she may not have been socialized as a puppy...which is so crucial.

I would just take it very slow with her...bring her out with you as much as you can so she can get used to people and other dogs.

She will eventually come out of her shell.

Yes...it is hard to see a Lab this way...because usually they love people and want to be around them.

Please post a picture when you can.
