Aftermath of a Pit Bull Encounter

This happened in about 3 seconds. The vet called it de-gloving because the skin peeled away from the underlying tissue (probably as the pit was wrestled off my dog while refusing to unclamp his jaw). A couple seconds later and the outcome would have been much worse. Six hours at the e-vet, sedated and sutured, now wearing the cone of shame for 2 weeks. She hasn't eaten since before the incident--don't know if she's anxious, in pain, nauseous from medication, or what. So we have that to deal with now.

My sweet gentle 10 year old yellow girl. We've had her since 8 weeks old and she's never so much as growled at anyone or anything in her entire life.

"There are no bad dogs just bad owners..." Yea, I'm not so sure about that. I'll never trust this breed or let my loved ones get anywhere near them. The damage they can inflict is unbelievable. Until you see it happen, and then you will know. No doubt that without quick intervention this pit bull would have killed my old girl, probably in under one minute, completely unprovoked, for no reason at all.

Poor, sweet girl. Traumatic experience for sure. I steer clear of those dogs, I don't care what anybody says!

Very scary, hope she feels better soon. I'm not sorry that they're banned where I live.

    Oh my, that looks awful.

Sending good healing thoughts for her.

She's probably not going to eat right away after anesthesia. Give her till tomorrow, and some boiled chicken or hamburger with overcooked rice would be good.

Also, can you get her an inflatable collar? It might be so much more comfortable. She looks like she's in enough pain as it is. Poor sweet gal.

So sorry for you and your girl. I hope she heals quickly.
My grandkids have pits and they're not allowed to have them up here.

I am so sorry for your sweet girl. Sending your girl many prayers and healing thoughts.

I hope the owner of the Pit pays for the vet bills. I know every area has its own laws and procedure, but I hope you are able to get this dog on record as a danger to other animals and humans. In my area they really don't care unless a human is attacked.

I hate Pit Bulls. They are bred to be predators and they are predators.

I stay clear too, they are banned from our doggie daycare because of some bad experiences. Prayers for a quick recovery!
