Pretty. Do they eat something in particular?
ShoalsRebel (05-29-2014)
well I hope they have a long childhood then, sheesh only one week as an adult, it looks like a leaf
ShoalsRebel (05-29-2014)
Awesome pic. I had never heard of one before now. (lol)

Great pic and very interesting; at first I also thought it was a cute leaf and then I looked again more carefully. Although one week doesn't seem to be enough, mayflies (Mayfly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) live even shorter; depending on the particular kind 1-3 days. The one that lives here, Central Europe, lives only one day Členovci - Vzdušnicovci - Vzdušnicovci - Hmyz - Jepice - Jepice obecná

Lovely. I don't think I've ever seen one.

I think they are very interesting. The spots on the wings are supposed to look like eyes to confuse predators.
Kudos to Mocha for not eating our visitor! He just sniffed it and walked on by!! (maybe the eye spots on the wings worked!!!)

Cool looking moth. Have seen a few around here but not often.
Lucky you to see that. They are really big, aren't they? How wide was the wingspan do you think? Have never seen a live one myself.
