Sore on head.

Hi, I haven't been on here in quite awhile. Actually since Hunter was a puppy. He's over a year old now and doing great. He's happy as can be and so much bigger than I would have ever expected. A year ago he was 13 lbs... now he's 85. Boy time flies.

Anyway, I had Hunter staying at my dad's for memorial day weekend while my boyfriend and I took a much needed vacation. When I got back I noticed a rather large sore on his head. It doesn't appear to be an absess or a parasite because there doesn't seem to be an opening, just basically raw skin. My dad said he doesn't know what happened it just kind of showed up there. I will go ahead and post a picture with this of the sore. He has his yearly vet appointment Friday, so he will see a vet I'm just kind of curious of what you all on here think. I haven't noticed it getting worse but it does hurt him.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hard to tell, were there other dogs there and a possible tussle or 'bitey face' ensued. Or ran into something or hotspot as was mentioned.

Does look like a hot spot. Melody had one. Shaved down the fur short, but not to the skin. Daily rinsing with warm water to soften and wash away the crusties. No rubbing. Pat dry; again no rubbing. Let air dry. Coated with Gold Bond powder in the gold container.

On the head is a tough spot to work with. Be sure to protect eyes and nose when applying the powder, it is quite lofty.

If you're unsure at all, have the vet take a look.

Thank you for your replies. I have had dogs in the past with hot spots but I always thought they were in places where they can lick it. I'll update tomorrow after he sees the vet.

I have had them on the cheek where they can not lick.

Please update! Would like to hear what the Vet has to say. How's your boy doing other than having that sore on his head?
