question about loose stools on new food....

    Hi all,
Duncan has been eating wellness simple lamb for a few years now but he recently had some unrelated stomach issues and now refuses to touch it anymore after he got better.
I switched over to farmina cod this past Wednesday and he has had loose stools.
I know you are supposed to gradually switch but in this instance I had no choice.
I also know that this sometimes happens when switching and could be temporary.
I'm just wondering how long I should wait before I should start to look for an alternative.
I was thinking like 2 weeks?
Any advice or help would be great.
    thanks

It could be a richer food, try feeding a tad less....if you feed too much food, stools can become real loose, real quick.

It's not unheard of for a dog to suddenly start refusing their old food, relating it to an illness they recovered from. I had the same issue.

Some foods are richer then others, even if the calorie intake is the same. So try cutting back 1/8 cup or so, if that doesn't work, cut back 1/4 of a cup...many of times it cures the problem.

First do over cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast for 48 hours, it will calm his tummy down. Then gradually mix in the food with the rice and chicken. As his stools get better, decrease the rice and chicken and add in more dog food until the transition is complete. A week or 2 should be enough
