    A shout out to plumbers.

How do you do it? Our kitchen drain pipe clogged up in a pretty spectacular way. We called our regular plumber who took off the caps to the drain trap in the basement and told us to call a specialist in drain clearing. I went downstairs while waiting for the specialist and about gagged. There were black stains on the floor where they had cleaned up and it reeked. The specialist came over but the drain pipe has all kinds of angles in it. He came up after a while and told me that we needed to get the pipe cut and a drain trap put in farther down the line which our plumber had suggested as a possibility.

The specialist was covered in black goo. It was so so disgusting. He said that the pipe spat up on him and didn't charge the full fee since he wasn't able to unclog the drain completely. Then he told me that he had been able to pull up some hair or fur (as if something crawled into the pipe and died there).

OK. You know what? If I was a plumber and I showed up at my house, I'd just go into a different field entirely. But these guys were so enthusiastic. And they're coming back to replace our crap drain pipe. I cannot imagine.

It's a nasty job and I have no problem paying them big bucks to gitter done! Mainly when someone pours drain cleaner down the pipe and then it sprays on them.

I design the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for very large commercial projects. Pay the man the money and move on. It's worth every penny... This weekend my girlfriend decided to try an entire pot of rice down the kitchen sink through the disposal. Total disaster. Told her to call a plumber. She said "you act like this is my fault". I said "It is your fault. Please call the plumber".

I was a plumbing contractor and the first thing I was taught was stick to new installations! So glad I did for that reason!

Good for you. This has been a long time coming and we have another pipe from the upstairs bathroom that is completely clogged as well but we have to get the sink fixed first. The specialist said that grease (soap) over time played a huge part and now it's just a sludgy mess. Ick, ick, ick.

I literally passed out three business cards from our plumber to people on the street who had homes from the 1800's and were having the exact same problems.

My son is a master plumber, and he only does new construction and warranty work for the builder he works for. My son-in-law is a plumber in the USAF. He deals with all kinds od nastiness. When you have an issue, they truly are worth even penny you pay them.
