Can't you just prevent him? Keep him on leash and distract him maybe, untill you arrive at the potty area.
packer has developed another bad habit ,I let him out and he pees, and poops right outside the door.I'm afraid that now that the warm weather is coming I won't be able to keep the door open a the smell will be coming into the house, any ideas again he is 4 months old

he hates his leash but maybe I will carry him out to the spot
Packer
no ,i'm a big guy,so i pick him up all the time so i guess thats what i'll have to do
Packer
no time like the present to work on the leash thing I'd work on that now.
But for your issue, I would stand there or put a chair or something there to discourage him.

He is way too young to potty on his own. He'll make his own decisions on where to go if you don't go out with him.
LOL, and at our house even when they are adults, at the start of every winter with snow on the deck I have to go right out with again. It seems in doggy minds snow on deck equals snow on ground, what's the difference, why go farther than they have to? I have to go out with them to show that there IS a difference.

thats exactly my problem,he peed on my deck when it was covered with snow ,so now thats where he goes
Packer
I would say pick up the poop and dont let him pee on the deck anymore. Carry him off of it if you need to.
As far as smells just wait until he has gas. My female lab can clear a room some nights.
Anything you dont want them to do when they are older, dont let them do while they are younger.
