When I eat, I will give Oliver a treat to entertain himself so I have a peaceful meal. He will take his treat and go to "his" couch and then wait until I sit down and start eating before he eats his treat. I did not teach him this but love it.
What good manner(s) have you advertently or inadvertently taught your dog?
Don't allow your happiness to be interrupted by overly judgmental people. The problem is not you, because even if you do good all the time, they would still find a way to judge you wrongly.

How sweet, lets the lady begin to eat first
Zoey has no manners, she is big, clumsey, drooling labracow. She does know how to share my pillow with me, that counts. She doesnt want to get kicked out of bed

When I had Sophie spayed I was checking her stiches countless times per day. I have her "down" and then tell her "let me see your belly" as I'd slowly roll her onto her back. With a couple days, she would roll on her back as soon as I said it. Even now, 2 years later, when I tell her to let me see her belly she rolls on her back with this cheesy grin on her face. People love seeing this one!

Funny the eating habits they develop. If I put down the bowl of food for my Cassie and leave for whatever reason, she stops eating and waits for me to get home. Then she will walk over to her bowl and finish dinner. I swear she's trying to guilt me into not leaving her behind. She wants company for dinner.
My dachshund has the WORST manners. She will literally try to steal a bite of something as you put it in your mouth. That's if we are eating anything on the sofa. When we are eating at the table she has much better manners. Hunter has trained her to wait patiently in her bed while we eat, all he has to do is give her the "eyes" and she goes running to her bed. Daisy on the other hand is perfect and pays us no mind while we eat.
What a polite boy Oliver is.
Lola normally sits just outside of the kitchen while we make dinner. When we walk over to the table to eat our dinner, I say "OK" and she pops up and goes into her soft crate while my wife and I eat. She'll sleep or chew on a bone, but never comes over to the table while we're eating. I know, strange Lab behavior for sure. ;-)
