    Meanest Mommy ever!

Kimber has to get her blood checked every 6 months or so because she's on daily medication that could affect her liver. To get the cleanest sample possible, our vet wanted Kimber to fast the day of the blood drawing. We waited until we could get the first appointment of the day, and today is the day. DH will be taking her while Mommy (me) is at work.

6:15 am: Kimber and Mommy get up and Kimber goes outside. Kimber jumps around as Mommy puts the bowl on the ground. She looks quizzically for a second because it just has water, but she laps it up.

6:16 am: Kimber finished drinking the water, potties, then runs up and noses the bowl towards Mommy. Mommy pretends not to see and brings Kimber back inside.

6:17 am: Kimber runs to the pantry and waits patiently. Mommy pretends not to see and continues getting ready for work.

6:20 am: Kimber comes into the bathroom and noses Mommy. Mommy pretends Kimber just wants some loving and scratches her head. Kimber tolerates this for about 5 nanoseconds and then starts walking back to the pantry, checking to see if Mommy is following.

    6:21 am: Mommy is not.

6:30 am: Mommy finishes in the bathroom and goes into the kitchen. Kimber runs over to the pantry. When Mommy moves towards the fridge, Kimber runs over to her blanket where she sits while having her morning frozen kong.

6:31 am: A loud snort is heard when no kong is forthcoming.

6:40 am: Mommy heads out, 5 minutes ahead of schedule because she can't take it any more. She makes the mistake of looking back and sees Kimber, wagging her tail uncertainly, big eyes screaming, "Why have you forsaken me?"

Oh, the guilt! I'm not sure how DH handled the next two hours before the appointment, but I bet I'll owe him.

PS Blood work came back fine!

Yay on the blood work! I know mommy was so mean for not feeding you this morning Kimber, but she is doing it for you, because she loves you!

Great news on Kimber's blood work. As far as breakfast goes, it's a good thing they don't hold a grudge.

    Too funny.

I had the same issue with my previous chocolate lab, Mocha, only she took it further ... If no food was forthcoming, she would put both her front paws in the stainless steel bowl and proceed to ring the bowl like a dinner bell. If that failed, those same two front paws would grip the edge of the bowl and she would spread her back legs. Then she would send the bowl sailing down the hallway at mach one. If you still failed to understand that she wanted food in the bowl NOW, she would retrieve the bowl and present it to your lap. Pretty much could read her lips - "what part of I'm hungry didn't you understand?"

That first vet appointment of the day is a coveted prize.

Yah for the good blood work report.
I don't know how you withstood the "eyes". They can make you crack up or cry! Bless their labby hearts!

I am glad the bloodwork was good! It sounds like Kimber nailed the guilt trip to perfection.

    Great news on the bloodwork!

I think the hardest part of surgery or a fasting blood draw is the disappointment that we just can't adequately eliminate. If mine think there's a meal due, nothing serves as an acceptable distraction.

Great results on the blood work.

Know all too well the "you did not feed me" look. Can't trust DH, he caves.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
