    That Was Close

DH just let Archie out for his final potty. Then he saw the skunk on the other side of the fence and so did Archie. Archie barked and ran toward the fence. Thank goodness for a great recall, Archie came right back. The skunk did spray but as much as we sniffed, cannot find any on Archie and I rubbed my hands all over him.

As soon as I approached the door, boy could I smell it. Used a spray neutralizing product I picked up at a dog show - NU Kleen odor free. It eliminates the odor, not cover it up. Within a few minutes no smell in the house.

Guess I need to reapply the fox urine crystals along the fence line as it has rained a lot. At least it was not in our yard and we do occasionally see it crossing in the neighbors yard.

Whew, kudos for a great recall! That could have been a foul situation one of those special kind that only happen late at night!

    Lucky you!

Every dog I have ever owned has been skunked in their own backyard at some point or another.

Oh yeah that's a good recall. That a steak reward type recall Nothing worse when you are tired and headed for bed than having to find the "skunk kit" and wash the dog.

Wow, that was close. This gives me a little extra incentive to make sure Mocha's recall is solid.

Whenever I see a dead skunk on the side of the road, I think "that's one that can't get Mocha".

Great incentive to work on recall! Glad no one had skunk issues.

Oh gosh, I can't imagine a late night trying to de-skunk a dog. One of our dogs when I was a kid (under the age of 9, since that's when she died) got skunked when we were on a summer vacation family camping trip. The ride home, 5 of us plus the dog in a sedan with no air conditioning, was ba-a-a-a-d.

And that is some solid recall you've trained on Archie! That's fantastic!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

    Great job Archie!
Growing up we had a Sheltie and a long haired B&W Tuxido cat. We let Max out for his last potty break. I know he thought the B&W "kitty" in the back yard was Muffin! We had Max shaved but for 6 months after when ever he got wet that smell came out.
