Kanzi (13 mos) hasn't had any field / water exposure w/ groups until today. She's hardly swam more than maybe 30yd (at best-- my hand throws) but has been in pretty strong currents recently, and handled that well. So today we had a training op out ~90 miles or so from here. I was a little apprehensive but figured her mom would really enjoy the outing plus I have the 2 15 wk old pups and what harm can that be....socialization wise especially.
Suffice to say, the concepts Kanzi learned all in one day today put a smile on my face. Not only did she do her first field ( w/ HEAVY cover/ terrain) marks w/ kids out there in the holding blinds, but she was also stretched out on her water retrieves naturally right off the bat, AND she learned water re-entries as well! AND then put together as Land / Water/ Land / Water/ Land concept to boot. I'm smiling. It's been a long winter / spring and I have to say that getting up and going some weekday mornings is still hard for me but I was a smiling girl today. This is therapy!
PS All her field stuff up to this point has been on my land here. Mostly w/ wingers (remote controlled) but a couple times w/ another pup owner doing walking singles. But not much more than that!

It's so fun when their natural abilities shine through!
That's awesome! Seems like the trip was well worth it.
