    Another lawn thread.

Last year at this time, it was this:

Now it's this (right after I mowed it):

Not bad for someone who spent most of her life in the desert! Thank you to everyone here who gave me advice. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Really great job! Definitely not bad. My front yard is like a blanket, but backyard, I'm just glad it looks green, lol.

We just sowed 200 lbs of grass seed. I hope we get the same great results you did. Looks great.

Lisa, tell me your expertise for desert grass. If you had it, how long did you set your sprinkler for? I'm running at 4 minutes 2x's daily now, but not sure.

I didn't have it personally but when I was a kid we had it in the complex we lived in. As I recall, during the summer, they watered extensively at night. I'm sure that was because of evaporation. Sometimes they did water it during the day but that's supposed to burn the grass. It was a really tough grass too. I think it was Bermuda.

When I bought my own homes, I just put down rocks. My backyard was dirt on our house with land. Our caliche layer was a couple of inches down and it was thick so I just didn't go there. I tried to plant a tree once and had to use a pickax. Needless to say, the tree didn't really establish. I'm on a different planet here. I got so excited I may have over planted.

    Looking great!

Tilled the front yard last year and planted a shade blend with the shade from the maple. It came up beautifully. Poor grass, it's now in full sun. May over seed with a sun seed.

Let me know how that goes please. What seed to you plan to use?

My next challenges are the dog yard and the neighbor's yard. I threw some seed down in the dog yard from a bag that got wet and it's coming up so now I feel the need to grow a really nice lawn there as well. My neighbor has moss but doesn't like bare dirt so I threw down some seed there after putting down lime and fertilizer and it's coming through the moss but it's not very enthusiastic.
