i never heard of doing that "preventatively"
i'd sooner do smaller meals , watch that he eats more slowly than go thru that surgery, before needed.
I brought packer to the vet today for his heartworm and to schedule him to get fixed and my vet suggested I get the pups stomach tacked to prevent flipping which is common for the breed ,my 1st chocolate died from it,has anyone had it done?thoughts?

I have heard of it for Great Danes and a few other giant breeds that are prone to it. I do agree with Bett, it isn't something I would do. How old is your puppy?

I would personally NOT do this for my dog. It's more money for the vet so I see why they woudl push for added procdures. There are free and easy ways to reduce/prevent bloat - smaller meals, make sure they don't eat too fast (lots of ways to do this) and do not have the dog run an hour before and after eating.
I have heard of this done with more regularity with danes.

he's going in to get neutered so it's not just for that surgery and my vet it might be something i want to think about
Packer
i'd think about it, and not do it.

I'm sure others will chime in, but you may want to wait until Packer is older to get him neutered.

my 1st lab died from the stomach flipping, this was in the 90's before i'd ever heard of this problem and at that time the vet told me they could un flip it but the surgery is very expensive and once it happens once it becomes more frequent and to unflip it was almost 3xs as expensive as it is to pin it so we'll see,I'd hate to go thru that again, zach really suffered
Packer
note that the surgery doesn't guarantee the stomach will not flip. At least as far as my understanding goes. it's not 100%
