    Bear!

Charlie and I were hiking on our favourite trail near our cottage last week. We heard a loud crashing in the bush which turned out to be a black bear running towards us. I am not sure the bear was aware of our presence, however, he found out pretty quick. When the bear reached the edge of the trail we were on, Charlie sprung into action. He growled, snarled and proceeded to chase that bear back into the bush. One of the many reasons I love him so much...

Has anybody else had an encounter with a bear while with their dog?

Not while with the dog, but I have seen bears when I've been driving, and bear sign. A neighbour has a bear bell on her dog all spring summer and fall, having seen bears a couple of times in the same bush I go to. They are more likely to be seen here in spring and early summer when they are hungry and when the local pick your own strawberry farm has berries.

I'm glad your bear ran away. People have told me the bear might just chase the dog and the dog will run back to the person, and then ..... Apparently that's suspected in the bear attack near Marmora ( Madoc? Norland?) a couple of years ago.

Wow,that would have been scary. So glad the bear ran away and didn't challenge Charlie, could have been a really bad situation for him.
