Help! My dog swallowed a sock...

It was a small one; not sure if that will make a difference, but it was a thin ankle sock left out on my deck and unknown to me as I came home this morning from a weekend at the beach. He swallowed it as I got to him. So, besides watching to see if it makes its way out, does anyone have any suggestions or tips on what to do? I thought I read something on the forum about what to do but since the crash, I am feeling helpless. Marlin is 9 months and this is the first time he has every swallowed a sock so I am worried.

    Thanks!

I would bring the pup in to the vet. This could cause an obstruction. However, if it was really recently, you could induce vomiting. Keep us posted!

+1 on going to a vet! Call and ask them and see what they say. If they tell you to make him vomit. Hydrogen peroxide should do the trick

While some labs have managed to pass all sorts of items, at the very least I would call the vet.

    Please keep us updated.

I wasn't sure if I should induce vomiting. However, I am now at work so that is not an option. I am going to call vet and get him in today.

When Sam swallowed a washcloth as a puppy, we took him to the vet. They gave him a shot and he puked it right up.

My Cassie has swallowed several socks and knee hi stockings! I don't usually know until it comes out. Several have come out fully intact from the rear end. Others sit in her stomach until everything else is digested and then around 2:00 am she upchucks it.
Just watch carefully for any signs of distress or discomfort, such as not eating, etc.
Sign up for health insurance if you don't already have it. Obstructions can be expensive and Labs will put everything they can fit, in their mouths. Cassie went through a stage where she would swallow it rather than "give it"! We are past that, (I hope) and now she only cuddles and carries socks.
    Good luck.

Ok I just called the vet and have an appointment for later today. I assume he will do an xray. Keeping my fingers crossed! I'm so mad at myself for not getting to him quicker, and a bit annoyed at my grown daughter for leaving her socks laying around......

and thank god I do have pet insurance!
