    Saying goodbye

I was scheduled to fly home from the west coast back to the east coast last night when my flight was cancelled. Since this had been one of many travel issues, I called my mom to tell her I probably just wouldn't come at this point. She broke the news that she's been waiting to tell me in person that my lab, the one I grew up with, is dying from cancer and that this would probably be my last goodbye.

Even at 14 she still has puppy moments. She is one of those dogs who you knew in your head was getting older, but never really believed it.

I'm sorry you've had such sad news. I hope you get a flight in time to help support your Mom and have those last hugs and I love you's.

I am so sorry. It doesn't matter how long we have them, it never seems to be long enough. Prayers of comfort to you.

So very sorry. That horrid cancer has taken too many of our babies. I wish CANCER would get thrown to the depths of Hell.

I'm so sorry. I hope you can visit her. It's never easy to say goodbye and the hardest part about having a dog.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I made it here as did my other siblings. We're going to spend the weekend loving her and saying goodbye. Then my parents will take her in probably next week as soon as they see any signs of distress.

At this point she has a tumor on her spleen, a bleed in her stomach, and cancer of the blood. The vet guessed that she has 1-2 weeks left. I was really shocked at her decline since I'd last seen her over Christmas. Thankfully the vet doesn't believe she's in pain, just not feeling that well.
