So proud of my little man

Took my 4.5mo pup Boomer to the dog park/swimming lake this weekend. We've been working on casting drills on land and he's coming along nicely. Anywho... we're at the lake and a lady throws a tennis ball out for her pup and it went far. Like 50yds... the dog went halfway then refused to get it and none of the other dogs could get it. I ended up taking boomer over(he definitely didn't see it) and got him at heel and lined him up on the ball. Took a min to get him focused on the line...

Once I sent him he took off like a bullet, but veered a little right. I didn't have a whistle on me so I whistled with my fingers to stop him and he did. Then I gave him the over sign and good night if he didn't take that cast perfectly and went straight at the ball and brought it back. I was grinning ear to ear when he came back and the people on shore were clapping for him. Then for an added bonus I wanted to show off a little more and shook my hand to make him shake the water off before he gave me the ball.

Sorry to boast but oh man he made me the happiest parent yesterday.

    Teej89,
Nice to see it all come together. What program are you using that Boomer at 4.5 months is already "handling" (taking multi - directional casting)?

I'm just doing little casting games with treats and platforms. It was wishful thinking he'd actually take it, I still believe it was 98% luck. We're just starting the formal obedience in the yard and trying to get him lead steady but he gets all ramped up when using wingers. If it's just me throwing I don't need to hold his lead. And we're on the Lardy TRT. He's going away to a trainer for collar conditioning and FF tho.

OK, sounds good ! I didn't want to see ye pushing too hard / too fast and burning him out. Between sending him off to a pro and using the Lardy TRT program ye should be in great shape. Good luck with BOOMER!

Yeah it's just little casting games with treats. Never had to cast him since we're not doing blinds, just marks.
