    Canine Caviar...anyone else?

After 7 years of owning my extremely tipsy tummied boy, I've found a food he can tolerate that isn't nasty prescription food! I'm ecstatic! I'm doing the Lamb and Pearl millet flavor now and (knocking on wood) it's going well. He LOVES it. It smells like herbs to me and I took one whiff and thought, "he'll never touch this." I was wrong! Nice firm, not just solid BUT firm, stools. That's a first! I may even get brave and try another flavor in a bag or 2!

Does anyone else feed this and like it?

It doesn't seem very popular here as My local place did carry it, but it wasn't selling well so they stopped. I ended up getting a small bag from Chewy.

The kennel we use for boarding uses it as their standard food. If you want your dog to eat anything else you have to bring it. We haven't tried the CC. Last I looked, and it's been a while, the packaging said it was something like 600 calories per cup. Since my dogs usually eat 2 cups per day of food that averages fewer than 450 calories per cup, I hated to feed them even less food than they were currently getting since they already act like they're starving. I wondered if it made their poops smaller, firmer, and easier for the staff to clean up. I can see that advantage for a kennel! Since my dogs do OK on almost anything I feed them, I haven't tried it, although I think my little food store still carries it. I'm sure it's a relief to you to find something that works well.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Yes smartrock, the flavor I'm feeding is 500+ calories per cup. Which is about 150 calories more than the script crap. I've cut him back to 3/4 cup am and pm to see how that goes, luckily he doesn't seem to mind the smaller quantity as much.

Great food! I had the best of luck with it. Expensive as heck though! It's less expensive to feed raw.

The lamb formula isn't too bad price wise. Anything is cheaper than the vet crap! It's a smaller bag, and I'm feeding less of it so even if I did try the more expensive favors, it would probably work out the be the same or less.

Years ago when I was still feeding kibble I fed a couple bags of it, it is not readily available where I live either.

We swear by it. We were on a food roller coaster with Lola, due to tummy problems and loose stools. We ended up going to a specialist and having some food allergy panels done. After that, we looked for a food that did not have any ingredients that Lola might be allergic to. We've been feeding Lola the Open Sky (duck) grain free formula for a little over a year. Expensive as all get out, but Lola has thrived on it and we've steared clear of the vet.

We also feed a prepared raw (Primal turkey and sardine) and cook for 2 or 3 meals a week.
