    Starbucks and labs

At the drive-through Starbucks, I ordered a 'pup cup' (small cup with whipped cream) for Kimber. When we pulled up to the window, my drink wasn't ready but the barista gave me Kimber's cup and leaned out to see her. "Oh!" he said. " A lab? How old is she? I have 3 labs." He paused. "We had 4, but we had to put our 11 year old down last year. He looked just like your lab." He told me a little bit about his other labs but he couldn't take his eyes off of Kimber girl. "I still really miss him." I could tell his eyes were getting misty. I think we could've talked for quite a bit longer except the line of cars behind me was starting to build.

I'm always drawn to labradors when I'm out in public, but there is that special hit when you see one that looks a lot like your particular lab, isn't there?

Labs leave such pawprints on our hearts...

Absolutely! And a pup cup? I didn't know about those... but I don't know of any Starbucks drive-throughs around here and it would not fly to leave mine tied outside. I might have to "test" the pup cup before I managed to get it home!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

They sure do! It always makes my heart smile when I see one that resembles a dog that has passed and especially when I see a behavior or mannerism that takes me back. It sometimes brings tears but I always tell myself how very lucky I was/am to have loved and be loved so well.

I never will forget this one time I was at a gas station and some elderly gentleman was getting gas and he seen Hemi and started telling me about the labs he had. Asked me if he could pet him. I was like sure, Hemi had his seat belt on and I told him if he wanted to open the door and give him a hug and get a good face washing he was welcome to. Which he took full advantage of. I could just Hemi's whole butt wiggling in the back of the truck. That guy was smiling ear to ear. I had long filled up but let him have his time.

There is just something special about a Labrador. Every time we see a black lab, my daughter always says " I miss Dakota".
Even though it has been over six years, and a crazy yellow lab in his place. They never do leave your thoughts!

Maverick is my first lab so I haven't experienced that yet. However, we were at a dog pull a few months ago and there was a lady with a gorgeous soft coated (long haired) Alaskan Malamute that looked just like my boy Nikko. I started crying when I saw him. They leave a lasting impression that's for sure.
