I have not been on this board for many many years. I actually had to register again. this community helped me many years ago with my then lab puppy.
Today, after 12 years, I made the most difficult decision I have ever made. And now, Zulu has crossed that rainbow bridge.
I actually had a much longer post written out but I deleted it for fear that I might offend someone or that maybe someone would offend me. I'm really doing this to help my self grieve and maybe it will help someone else.
It is so very hard to see them go. He had many allergy issues, and LP issues that were getting worse. Surgery was not an option. And I just would not watch him suffer and labor to breathe just to cross the room. He may have made it another 6 months, but I don't think they would have been good ones. And he didn't deserve that.
We hugged all day. I'll always want one more hug.
It is so hard. For 12 years he was always right by my side.
Rest in peace Zulu. No more suffering.
Thank you for listening.

Rest in Peace, Zulu. Losing our friends is so terribly difficult and I'm glad you felt like you could come back to share with us. Sometimes prolonging a dog's life is more because we cannot stand to lose them, not because they aren't suffering. I'm sure you did what you felt in your heart was best for him. Hugs to you today.
BTW: The lab board crashed a year and 1/2 ago or so and we all had to re-register.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Zulu, he's joining many other lab board friends in dog heaven.
I am so very sorry. As hard as it is to make this decision it truly is the ultimate act of love when you put quality before quantity. It is so much easier to be selfish. ((((hugs)))) to you.
Godspeed Zulu.

The hardest decision ever requiring a lot of bravery, but the right one because they do deserve a chance to keep their dignity and happiness till the last minute of their lives. Rest In Peace, Zulu

So sorry for your loss of Zulu. You did the right thing (a day early vs a day late they say). My dog also had LP and I let him go last June, so a lot of us here can relate.
