The puppies are reaching that awkward age

Getting too big for our baby gates to confine them, but not yet big enough to be trusted with run of the house. We crate them while we are out, but it’s a pain to have to crate them for 5 minutes every time I need to run upstairs for something - they are usually gated into the kitchen/family room with access to the doggie door, and as long as nothing new is left out for them to get into, they are fine in those areas. But, Cookie has managed to escape from the baby-gated area of the house 3 times already today. Haven’t seen how yet (she tends to mysteriously appear upstairs a few minutes after I go up for something) but I suspect she is jumping/climbing the 2 foot high extended gate. Sassy, being a bit shorter than her sister has yet to master it. I can use an ex-pen to make a higher barricade, but that means poor Chloe will no longer to be able to escape her children at will as she won’t be able to jump it, either. And since both Chloe and Cookie have gone upstairs, leaving her left out of the fun, Sassy of course starts barking and carrying on in protest. Fun times, fun times.

Time to start teaching them the rules of the rest of the house now so that they can follow me around if they want, LOL.

That is the age. I had Lab pups leaping higher. Considering that I have had 8 wk old Cavalier pups climbing ex pens and 16 lb girl Cavaliers that could leap to the top of 32 inch baby gates, I am amazed that you got this far. BTW, their half brother, Hiview "Blue," is number 5 in show stats up in Canine Chronicle.

How about showing them in Puppy at the fall Harvest shows? Or Mid Jersey Lab specialty?

Only if you are offering to handle them I have never handled in breed and don’t think I ever will. I don’t think Cookie is cut out for it, but Sassy might have a chance ... good to hear about Blue - he was almost their Daddy instead of their brother, LOL.

I'll be glad to take one of the pups off your hands ..... just saying lol. I know what you mean tho when I had the litter of pups they started climbing the baby gates once the rescue took the rest and left me with two I had to crate them BC the one would always jump over as soon as my back was turned. I felt bad always having to crate them.

And I’ll be too busy showing in Open and Utility to hang out in the breed ring, LOL. I will bring them though (one each day) for the socialization.

    Little rascals!

We had an odd place to have to gate, the top of the basement stairs. A while back Mardi was still trying to come down but no way could she get back up. With the outside door and a kitchen door at the top of the stairs, a regular baby gate would not work. DH built a gate. One side was a board fastened to the wall, the other side was a board with hook eyes, the hooks on the wall. I got some plastic chain at HD and made the body of the gate out of it, weaving the chain, tying it at places where it met. Hard to describe. Bottom line, I could unhook it open and since it was "collapsible", could open it and it was completely out of the way.

Aren't we due for some more pictures, Please.
