    Puli

I saw two Puli the other day, walking on leash, crossing the road. Boy, they're little. Somehow I had the idea they were a much bigger breed, about Lab height I thought. The coat is supposed to be quite waterproof but I sure wouldn't want to have to look after all those ringlets.

What rare breeds have you seen lately? I assume Puli are rare here.

I too was surprised by how small Puli are when I first saw one. There’s a fellow here who shows one in Obedience. His other breed is the Komondor which also have the corded coats. He keeps his Puli clipped though, probably because he doesn’t show it in breed.

oh and I didn't get to meet the dog but pen has a play date last week with a Entlebucher. had never heard of them. Unfortunately she didn't take to Penny so they won't be future play date buddies

The only time I've seen a puli is at a dog show. I too thought they were bigger/taller. After hearing about how long, days, it takes to wash and dry them, not my choice.

Pulik and Komondorok are cool! They look like awesome mops with legs! I just showed at a local all breed show so there were tons of rare breeds there. I stayed for groups since my pal's boy took the breed (then went sporting group 4 -- yay Labs), and saw one of my favorite breeds, Irish Red & White Setters.

John's is a Pumi, even more rare, but moving up in its quest for AKC recognition. Interesting dog. The coat is easier care, a shorter look. One was on the US Agility team. They are closely related to the Puli and Mudi.

The first and only time I saw a Puli, we were passing a knitting shop had what we thought was a mop like dog decoration near the window and were shocked when it moved. I had to look it up when we got home after realizing it was a real dog.

I take public transportation to work and we were all oohing and ahing over someone walking a gorgeous Old English Sheepdog. Although I don't consider them rare, I rarely see them.

Goodness, had not even heard of Pumi before.

I'm always amazed! I look at the breeds that are making their way through AKC's FSS program, all the breeds that are FCI only, and the many breeds that are in other parts of the world. Dogs are amazing!
