    Passed the Final Exam

I know it's not a big huge deal and it's just a little PetSmart class, but it was a big step for Ram Jet Rocket Dog who a year ago was a screaming-meemie, crazed creature even when wearing an e-collar. (Admittedly, that was when birds were being thrown, and guns were going off... but still, it shows how poorly self-controlled she was in her native state, if you will.) This is a dog that used to break on a friggin' BLIND retrieve.

So, anyway... she was in a prong collar (we aren't in a flat collar or martingale yet) and she went to PLACE on command, stayed on it while I went out of sight and while another dog was heeled around her and while toys were being thrown around her. Then when called she came to heel without getting a toy or going to other people or dogs. That was it. That was our final exam.

We aren't going to be doing any field work for another almost 3 months (and even then, the way things are going, the snow may be too thick to begin in February.) So we have time to go for the advanced class. I don't know if we can do it... but "can't never could" as my mom used to say.

Good job! Keep working on the obedience stuff, in the long run, it will only help her be better in the field.

Good work. That sounds pretty tough for a beginner class, all those distractions.

You know, your prong probably IS a martingale. I've never seen one that isn't though they certainly exist.

    There you go folks!!!

Maybe after the advanced class she'll get the gown and doctoral cowl!!! The people I train in the field with are mortified. But, hey! The pro said to just let her hang out and be a dog over the winter. She had a blast doing this! So, that's all that matters.

Congratulations. Enjoy the rest of the classes. Just getting her to wear that cap is a big accomplishment. I don't think M would do it.
