    Saw for the first time.....

I saw a Rhodesian Ridgeback at the show yesterday, it was the first time I've ever seen one live and in person. What a magnificent dog, and much bigger than I thought.

I also saw one of those dogs that looks like its made from rope, can't remember what they are called, but damn was that an ugly dog. It (couldn't tell if he or she) was wearing boots, and the ropes were all tied up all over the place. High maintenance and ugly, bad combination all the way around!

    Ridgebacks are beautiful dogs.

Was the other dog a Komondor, or a Puli?

Ridgebacks are beautiful dogs. We've had two ridgeback buddies Aaron (in the picture with Lynn) and Gordon; they were brothers, but they were so different they looked like two separate breeds. Aaron being very trim and athletic and Gordon being very muscular looking like a heavy-weight champ with a heart of gold.

BTW, the rope dog probably was a Komondor. I've seen a documentary on dogs and there was one "taking a bath" it required a team of experts, very sophisticated system of multiple showers and an army of hair dryers.

Love Ridgebacks. I've met a few over the years. The first one I met was super lovey and would come up behind you and walk between your legs. Which was always fun for me as I am short and she was taller than my legs

Hahaha - yes the puli/komodor are different!

Ridgies seem to be getting more popular. WE know of four and sometimes meet two. I am always leery of them, bred to be protective and I have no idea who a new owner of a new Ridgie is. The one big boy, neutered, is nasty to intact males but the owner is on the ball so we don't worry too much about him, though I will take a trail to avoid them if I can.

Was the rope dog big, Lab sized at least, and white? Or small and black?

I'm pretty sure Komondor, and it appeared much bigger than Bruce. I say appeared because I couldn't really tell where the dog ended and the hair began!!

We knew a Komondor or two years ago - Scully had quite the romantic fling with one in puppy class. Nice dogs, but typical flock guardians (a bit aloof with strangers, etc.).

Have seen ridgebacks at shows. Very sleek looking and move beautifully.

Can you imagine it taking days for your dog to dry after a bath. Heard that can be the case with a komondor. Long ago saw a program on dog shows and one of the highlighted dogs was a komondor. It was his last show and afterward showed him getting a hair cut. They took off pounds of fur.
