She does not need boots, but watch out where you walk for salt, it chaps and dries out their pads quickly.

If her pads do get dry and chapped, I find Bag Balm works great for Gabe, apply and rub in a lot.

You were so smart to get her first snow recorded. That's a nice batch of snow.

It is so much fun to watch them play in snow! I like Mushers Secret for paws in the winter. It is wax based and works better for my 2 during the winter cold, snow and ice.

    What fun for Molly!

I've found that as long as you carefully monitor paws and extreme temperatures, she will do find. Holding up a paw and hesitation to walk are cues it's too cold. Also, watch for ice, pieces can be sharp and cut a pad. Do watch out for road salt, it is toxic to dogs. There are types of melting agents you can use on porch, etc., that are nontoxic and do a very good job.

Rocket Dog is 2 years old so theoretically, this is her 3rd winter of life. But we've been in an extreme drought. So the 6" we got on Monday was a total new thing to her. It was very wet and compacted into snowballs very easily. The absolute funniest thing (I don't think I'm being cruel... but you decide) was when she was sure I was throwing a tennis ball for her. It would plop into the ground and she'd pounce on it like... "GOT IT!!!" and then be incredibly puzzled about the whole thing. She could smell it (my hands) but when she'd try to bite into the snow... all she got was snow. I also nailed her with a few (honest... not ice-balls like my brother used to hit me with. Just snowballs) and it produced absolute butt-tuck rips. I don't know which of us had more fun.
