On the paws in a thickish layer. I apply before going out for a walk on salty roads but you can apply after the paws are already cracked too.

I am debating between applying musher's secret and having her wearing boots. Which one works better, assuming she can get use to the boots?

Musher's Secret for sure. Way easier and you don't have to worry about losing boots, boots being kicked off, something happening to the boots.

But thinking of the dog's safety, which one is better? Is it possible that dogs can stumble because they do not feel and touch the ground as they normally do?

I like Mushers Secret, my dogs HATE booties. ( I have a nice pair of XL Mutluk booties, if anyone is interested please PM me!)

I apply MS liberally every other day or so, making sure to get between toes to avoid build up of snow/ice balls.

So you mean you apply MS not just on paw pad, also on the hairy areas between toes? So basically MS covers the entire side facing the ground, right?
