    My Satchel

-satchel-jpg-satchel-relaxing-edited-jpgI joined the board in 2013 - B.C. (before crash) to tell my story of my lab with the suspicious mass in his spleen which the vet was sure was hemangiosarcoma. It turned out that my dog's mass was not malignant and he thrived for another two years. Today, I sent Satchel to the Rainbow Bridge. It was a heartbreaking decision, but after 13 years, he was tired and he hurt. I had a mobile vet come to our home and Satchel crossed over surrounded by friends. His belly was full from grass fed beef steaks, a McD's caramel sundae and a large pile of lamb and rice treats.

I'm broken. But I'm comforted by this fact: This is the deal we make. We get a dog for years - in my case 13+ years - who bestows on us the kind of love and devotion I'd not thought possible. In return, we have one burden. A heart wrenching burden to be sure. It's still the best deal I've ever made.

Satchel was my first dog. He won't be my last, but he definitely has a piece of my heart. I want thank this board for advice that I have received and for being a community that loves and understands labs. I've found a home here - even though I'm kind of quiet.

When I'm ready, I hope you all will ready with advice and support for my next chapter.

    Cheers,

    Sioux.

So, so sorry for your loss. You were truly bless by him. We make the same promise to each senior who joins us. We will love and care for them and when the time comes, we help them when they need us the most. It indeed is heart wrenching. The only solace is that it is done out of true love.

    My deepest condolences.

    Rest In Peace Satchel
