    Kids

As most of you know, it's been a pretty rough couple of days for me. Had Bruce not passed, I would have been in Florida right now visiting with my Mom and step father. My DW had volunteered to watch our 6 year old grandson, Hayden tonight so my son and his wife could do some Christmas shopping. I didn't go to Florida, but we were still expecting Hayden.

This morning my son told Hayden about Bruce going to doggie heaven, and he was very upset. Hayden was just 2 1/2 when my chocolate boy, Noah passed over the Bridge. Hayden and Noah were the best of buddies, and Hayden still talks about Noah. Last Christmas we got Hayden three stuffed Lab puppies, one black, one yellow, and one chocolate. He named them Sophie, Fannie, and Noah, all names of dogs we've had.

Since Sophie's arrival almost 4 years ago, Hayden has just loved her, and she loves him. Hayden will lay on the floor and let Sophie kiss him for hours, just giggling all the while she licks the heck out of him.

This morning when Hayden was told of Bruce's passing to doggie heaven, he told his parents that Sophie must be very sad, and asked them if he could get Sophie a toy to make her happy. The took him to the local pet store, and he picked out a very nice Kong rope toy for her. When they arrived tonight he was holding a bag. DW and I knew nothing about all this. My DIL told us about Hayden want to give Sophie a toy to make her happy. He pulled it out, and they played together with it for quite a while.

Kids are awesome. They have the capacity to love unconditionally just like dogs do. It warmed my heart that he thought of Sophie at this very sad time.
