Help me understand what these acronyms stand for -

What exactly does each of these acronyms mean? CGC I'm virtually positive would be Canine Good Citizen, what about the others. I kept the names out on purpose for now.

Sire: AKC Champion Name CGC [aka name]

Dam: GRCH URO3 SHR breeder/kennel + name, CGC,RA,WC, CC [aka name]

AKC Champion means the dog has earned it’s conformation championship through the AKC. CGC is an AKC Obedience title meaning “Canine Good Citizen”

GRCH means the dog has achieved it’s Grand Championship. This could be either AKC or UKC - usually people specify if it is UKC, but not always.

URO3 is a UKC Rally Obedience title (Level 3)

SHR is a UKC hunting title (Started Hunting Retriever)

CGC - same as above (Canine Good Citizen)
RA - AKC Rally title (Rally Advanced)

The other two are through the Lab Ret. Club - WC is a “working certificate” meaning the dog has demonstrated basic instincts in the field, and CC is a “ conformation certificate” meaning the dog adheres to the breed standard without any major disqualifications.

Kind of depends on your perspective - with the exception of the conformation titles, none of these are at advanced levels, but it is nice they are getting the dog out and trying things with it.

Ok thank you. I am a complete novice when it comes to competitions with your dog and titles. There are a lot.

It takes a pretty salty dog to get a Grand Hunting Retriever Championship. I'd be pretty impressed with that one. I think the others speak to a dog with some good biddability and a nice temperament. The bench title means it looks kinda close to whatever the judges thought was the breed standard in the year that the dog got it.

Is this a puppy you're thinking of getting or one you've already gotten? The most important acronyms are the ones related to health clearances, I think. OFA Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. CERF Canine Eye Registration Foundation. You want a pup that is also EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) negative or carrier only (and the latter you should definitely spay/neuter)

I’m pretty sure the dog in the original post was a conformation Grand Champion (AKC title) not a Grand Hunting Retriever Championship (which I agree, would be very impressive). A conformation Championship means that the dog was judged to be the best representative of its breed (so closest to the breed standard) of all the dogs at a show over a number of shows. To earn it, some “points” can be earned at smaller shows, but some must come from defeating larger numbers of dogs at one time. A Grand Champion is a Champion that has continued to be shown and continued to beat the competition and earn enough points for the title.

Oooohhh. Got it. Yes. Then there is no guarantee that dog could find his food dish. But, the other titles speak to temperament and biddability. Just probably would not be your go to breeding for hard core field work.

And I'm speaking tongue in cheek. There is not a labrador in the history of labrador-dom that couldn't find his dish.

Actually I kind of doubt it. If a dog is an AKC Grand CH, why would they bother with a CC much less advertise it? Usually it is a certificate reserved for those dogs not competing in the conformation ring, in my experience. I think it is probably a mistaken abbreviation for something?

Pretty sure mom is a UKC GRCH. And she's the one with the CC. Not too many clubs do them but I imagine if I earned one, even on lets say Jagger, I would put it on the end.
