Just taking a moment to share me rendering of a Shang Wheeler inspired Canada Goose gunning decoy. Born out of the famed "Stratford School" of decoy makers of historical significance from yesteryear, I chose to do this drawing as a personal tribute to the work of Charles "SHANG" Wheeler. Over the last few decades, I often gunned along the same lower Housatonic estruine waters and out into Long Island Sound as once did Shang. Wheeler's decoys are considered floating pieces of both sculpture and history

This rendering is done in artist's grade colored pencils on tan toned, acid free, archilval quality drawing paper.

Who in the world would put those pieces of art out in the water? I guess that's what they are meant to be used for but I'd have mine, if I had one, on a shelf.

After market gunning was made illegal a number of the decoys from that era ended up being used as firewood for heat.
