    Sweet Daisy

Has not been herself since the day after Christmas. On Christmas Day I was at my brothers house. She was outside in the backyard with my brothers dog most of the day and when inside was watched very closely(she had been know to destroy kids toys for attention) so I know she didn't get into anything. Saturday she yelped a couple of times, starting with jumping or of bed and another time when she was In a room all by herself and she was standing up.
She has been sequestering herself to her kennel and occasionally a dog bed. Saturday night she slept in her kennel but last night I was able to coax her to sleep in bed with me. To get her down in the morning I had to lift her and she resisted it. To get her out of the car after the vet I had to carry her and she was planting her feet trying to refuse to get out of the car.
I took her to the vet Saturday and again today. She has no temperature, no visible limp, no signs
of pain when vet examined her.

Anyway, I had some bloodwork done today so Im anxiously waiting for news. I'm really hoping it's a muscle strain and nothing more serious. Vet said her symptoms are consistent with a disc injury but when she palpates her spine there are no obvious signs of pain. Vet wanted to start her on more serious pain meds and muscle relaxants and just basically treat her for a disc injury. It seemed a little drastic. She says that X-rays won't show a disc injury and a CT scan is ridiculously expensive.
Just asking for your prayers that it's just a simple muscle injury and nothing more serious.

    Doesn't the bloodwork include that?

I think an X-ray only shows a disc injury if it has calcified. I wonder, would MSM help? I'm sure Windycanyon will be along to give advice on that

FWIW I hate the muscle relaxers for dogs. The experiences we've had made them so groggy they couldn't even lift their heads.

I would have asked about her back as some things sound very similar to when Jet's back went out. Jet was old, 12.5, and it wasn't just disks it was her spine as well but I mention this because a spinal problem can show up on X-ray. Jet did obviously have pain though. Here's hoping for the best.

    What is MSM?
Yes I remember when my cat had a limp we have him a muscle relaxant and he turned into a zombie cat.
