Pretentious, egotistical absurdity. For some reason, this sort of things bothers the heck out of me. Actually, some reason? People are dying of starvation every day, and homeless, and in need. To spends such to believe you can replace a lost loved one seems the height of selfish greed.

Not sure if I'd want a cloned dog/animal. The best part about picking a new dog/cat/fish/etc is having a different personality than the last.

I saw that, and putting aside the absurd amount of money - the ethics of cloning bothers me even with animals. Personally, I believe God created each and every animal - personality and all. Which means every animal is unique and special in its own way. To try and clone them feels like a dishonor to your pet- are they really no more than DNA ? If they die can you just replace them?? It just feels wrong.

Money and ethics aside, any clone may have the same DNA, but it's a completely different dog. How many identical twins do you (general you, not specific you) know that are exactly the same, especially as they become adults?

Even if the puppy has the same DNA (nature) there is a nurture side to personality and temperament development, too. It's not like the owners can give this puppy the EXACT upbringing that shaped the last dog. Perhaps something happens to this pup that didn't happen to the other pup? Maybe they will move homes and the pup will live in a different environment? Or perhaps the owners treat this pup differently because of where they are in life (busier, not as busy, etc.) or because they have more experience? How disappointing to pay that much and, based on all of this, have a different dog!

Didn't what's her name, the sheep, Dolly? Didn't Dolly develop some old age ailments rather early in her life? Dolly was one of, if not THE, first cloned animal. Maybe cloning is more advanced now. I can't imagine even wanting to do that. There's only one Oban.

Yep! Dolly was the first cloned mammal. The cells of cloned animals start out the same "age" as the cell that was used to make the clone. It has to do with the shortening of telomeres (ends of chromosomes) each time a cell divides. So any problems that come with telomeres getting too short will occur earlier in a clone's life. or something like that.
