One year ago today, we went to pick up a little 3 month old Murphy from the Shelter. We had decided a week before that it was finally time to get a dog. My husband had dogs all his life, I never had. DH decided that it needed to be a male black lab and the hunt began. Very quickly we heard of one that had been found as a stray and turned in to the shelter. We went and visited him and of course fell in love, and then had to wait 5 more days to see if anyone claimed him. Here is Murphy at home on his first day:
Yep, look at those razer sharp teeth!!! There was much biting and bleeding and tearing of shorts. One of his favorite things to do as he got older and we took walks was to jump at your butt and bite. He could kill a stuffed toy in 15 minutes, needed to find stronger toys! He started training in August. He was the dog in class that just wanted to play with all the other doggies. We went to a pool open to doggies in August:
He got a neighbor German Shepherd girlfriend in September:

During this time, he was the easiest to potty train and crate train. DH and I both work, but we had a great neighbor kid that came over during the summer and played with him around noon until he was hold enough to hold it all day long. By Dec/Jan he could sleep out of the crate at night. I don't think I'll ever be comfortable with him out of crate during the day while we are gone. He's never destroyed a single shoe, he hasn't discovered counter surfing yet. He will put his nose at the edge of the counter, but never jumps. He will sit with us on our back deck and just "chill".

Now we are 6 weeks into agility training and having a BLAST. Getting very serious with this and am thinking about competing. Remember the beginning of the post where I was the one that never had a dog before, well, don't tell my DH, but this dog is my life now. He is just so amazing, he's my heart dog and I love him so much.
And I never would've made it to this place without all the wise knowledge shared by the members of this board!!!
