Crock Pot question-

I put chicken in the crock pot before I left & texted my husband 1 1/2 hrs. later to see if it smelled good. He said no. Went to check & said the lid was not on tight, kind of skewed so he thought it was letting heat escape, fixed it & left. Its set fro 8 hours-ya think its safe to eat?? He said it wasn't exactly open, just not sitting in the groove right...why does this happen to me? So for an hour & half it wasn't getting all the heat (maybe) should I scrap it when I get home??
