What three items would you get?

I came across this while wasting time browsing the intertoobs.
    ------------
SCENARIO...you are snowed in by the storm of the CENTURY.

You can go to the grocery store and get THREE items only.

    GO!

    -------------------
Leaving aside the likelihood that if you're snowed in you aren't going to the grocery store . . . . . . what would you get? You can be funny, serious, think outside the box (outside the snowdrift? ). I'll post my response a little later.

hmmm...... lets assume that we have hydro, and a heat source.

Toilet paper (scratch that - i usually buy that on sale or Costco so have lots!),,,,,, geez, running down the list of "must-haves" to survive, and i've got lots of food (canned, dry staples, and frozen), water if we've got hydro the well is fine, if not, snow melts............. i don't know!!!!!! maybe some magazines to read? some junk cereal to eat - froot loops, cap't crunch, etc. I'm stuck! fresh veggies? they'd only last how long they last.... i just don't know!

This is hard if you buy grocery items in bulk as much as possible, your dogs eat a varied menu and you freezer is stocked.

If I had to pick just things i didn't have on hand or enough of and I could be stranded for any length of time I would pick: fresh fruits, veggies, chocolate and wine! That is 4 but the fruits and veggies are in the same aisle, lol!

    You and me both!

I'm assuming there is water and electric. Gas for the snow blower, dog food. Well, dang having a hard time coming up with another since I'm pretty well stocked and plan it that way during the winter when you never know. I have plenty of meat, bread and soups I've made in the freezer along with extra milk. Also have plenty of baking stuff, flours of different varieties, yeast, etc. Probably would be more along the line of fresh fruit or veggies. Oh, maybe eggs.

I could go a good long time on peanut butter sandwiches, so I'd make sure I had both bread and PB. Wine or toilet paper, now there's a dilemma. I usually keep a fair amount of TP in stock, so we'll go with the wine.

When Hurricane Sandy was coming up the east coast, I told one of my kids, who was living in Manhattan, to please, please, please stock up on food in their apartment and take some cash out of the bank in case the computer systems went down. When I asked what they stocked up with, they had one french bread baguette, one thing of cheese- brie or something, and 4 bottles of wine. And typically the apartment had very little food in stock so their supply would have lasted about 4 hours. Sheesh!

I"m thinking the hydro would be out and I wouldn't go to the grocery store at all, I'd find a Tim Hortons someplace that did have power and go for chili and to warm up a bit. As a matter of fact, in a three day winter storm some years ago that is exactly what we did.

But to play along, probably I'd be worried about running out of cat food, so cat food. I would likely have enough food for Oban. WAter, we went to a spring up the road. And gas for the snowblower. We really did go to get water and gas.

All good answers, thanks for playing.

I assumed we would have a day's warning, and also assumed the hydro would go out for at least a time. I read elsewhere that you can fill ziploc and other containers with snow, instead of buying ice to keep cold food cold. Of course you might be able to simply put it in coolers outside. What I'd do is . . . (drum roll)

. . . stay far away from the grocery store. We have a fairly well-stocked pantry and freezer, so we either already have it or don't need it. (though Faye might disagree when it comes to milk). In addition to the kibble in the Vittles Vault we always have an unopened bag so we're good there.

I would fill the vehicle's gas tanks and the spare gas can. Maybe buy another propane tank. Definitely go to the library to stock up on books. And buy beer, to take advantage of some epic photo shoot opportunities that would put this one to shame.

Tequila, margarita mix, and pop tarts. Strawberry or Raspberry. I've got everything else covered here. About 60 pounds of dog food, so no issue there, Charcoal and lighter fluid, so I can cook. More food in the cupboards and fridge than we could eat in 2 months. I think we're good.
