    Good vet advice!

Gabby had her yearly exam this past week, and she's a healthy 4 1/2 years young. The vet always checks her micro-chip placement and, as she's grown, it's shifted a bit to her left shoulder area. The vet advised that if she would ever be lost, I should be sure to let people know to scan in that area, rather than running a quick check down her spine. I'm not sure I would've thought of that detail, since I have the fact that she's chipped on her dog tags.

On a funny side note: the visit always includes questions about her ears, and how often I flush them. My reply is the same every year - never. The tech always gives me 'the look', which seems to be saying 'we'll see what the vet says about that'. Same thing this year, and after the vet examined her ears, he turned to me and said 'well, let's continue to do what you're not doing'. I had to laugh, although I did explain that I check them periodically...there's just never anything in there!

We have three dogs with clean ears which I never treat and one with chronic ear infections. Our vet is now telling us to treat gunky ears every other day so as not to introduce moisture. I don't know why anyone would suggest flushing clean ears.

    Congrats on a great checkup!

My breeder posted on FB she had a couple of her dogs' chips migrate. She uses AKC Reunite if that matters.

I had Luna and Comet scanned last time they were at her house and Luna's had migrated but not Comet's. Definitely worth a mention at your next vet appointment!

I thought it was a well-known fact that microchips migrated.

And yeah, I've never been asked about ear-flushing. In fact, if my dogs' ears are clean, I don't touch them, even during grooming time.

Mocha's chip is right where it was injected. His ears are always clean and we are so happy to not have to deal with the gunk.

    Great check up.

Have heard of microchips migrating but so far it's not been a problem here.

I do Mardi's ears on a regular basis, every other week, and she's such a good girl about it. Brushing her teeth, no so good. She can be quite evasive. Do Archie's ears at the same time but his are always clean. Good thing, because he hates the routine.

Sarah and Ginger are mine with dirty ears that I have to keep an eye on especially Sarah with her allergies.

When we went to sign the adoption papers for Coleman from LRR, back in 01 they offered to chip Bailey too. We told them he was a stray picked up so before anything was done they took out their scanner and ran it all over his body saying that microchips have been known to migrate.
