    First time to the lake

It was warm yesterday took Wyatt to lake he is 5 months. Fetched a stick but would not
go swimming. I let him play for about 30 minutes. Once he went all the way under but didn't want
to leave the lake bottom and swim.

Any tips on getting him to swim?

Keep going, give him time, don't force him. Keep it fun, and eventually he will get braver. Also, going with another dog that loves to swim would probably help.

What Archie said. Give him time to learn, it will happen.

Also, if you go in with him, he may follow you.

What I did with Opie is just walked into the lake, he at that point could either follow me and swim or turn back. He chose to swim.

Another dog or yourself swimming usually persuades them. The other dog for Oban was leaping off a bank into the pond after balls her owner was throwing. The look on his face when he ran along with her, leaped with her, hit the water and found it was deep was priceless. Silly pup.

agree with the above, the best way to coax them in is to have a human they like or another four legged friend going in the water - monkey see, monkey do! but if that,s not possible, just keep going for visits and don't push him in

We used a kiddy pool in the back yard just to let them play and by the time they went to a deep pond, they were ready to experiment.

Takes time I guess like everyone says. Though they are water dogs, they really need to be introduced by another dog or yourself. A kiddy pool gives them an idea of what water is all about. Good Luck. I think Wyatt will be in the water before you know it. Oh BTW, have you thought of how you are going to get him out once he realizes the fun of water?
