    Dirty, Rotten, Stinking Dog

Literally on the dirty and stinking. Oban jumped or swam across the deep ditch that separates the edge of my neighbour's property from the side road and he wouldn't come back across. Thank God it's a little used side road because he ran up and down it beside the ditch doing his distress, "Don't Leave Me" bark.

Thank heaven I was able to reach the OH on my cell phone because the only other option I could think of was for ME to jump in and cross over to the road. It was -8C out but there was only a bit of ice on the edges, that ditch is deep, and it's all deep, black, stinky sludge in the bottom.

Well, he came back, but it sure took lots of cajoling. Crept out on the ice edge, then took as mighty a leap as he could off the slippy ice and sort of splashed, thrashed, swam back to me. Then, ZOOM. I caught the OH just as he was leaving and told him not to come after all.

There would have been a black, stinky trail all the way back home on the crust on the snow but the stuff froze on him.

He's shut in the kitchen now, to dry more after his bath. I rinsed and rinsed and rinsed as much as I could before even trying the shampoo but even after the shampoo that rinse water was nearly as black as Oban is.

I'm pooped, I bet he is too.

I just knew Oban had been up to something with that title!
funny how they thought it was such a great idea when they wanted across to the other side, then not so much when its time to head home..... is that ditch full of that black silky slimey very very fine sludge? ick. that stuff gets sooooo far up in their coats, and doesnt want to come out again! its bad enough when its on a yellow dog, and you can kinda see the "grey" areas that need more rinsing. but on jet black Oban??? no hope at alll....

But Mom, it's always more fun on the other side of the ditch!

Oban, you got a naughty sticker today. It's OK, I still love you.

Oh no! Nothing worse than that kind of sludge dirt on a black dog with a thick coat, you can never be sure they are really clean!

Ditches and doors are by definition, things dogs want to be on the other side of.

yes, thats the name! icky icky stuff. it leaves such a wonderful parfum behind too...just when you think its worn off, the DRSD (dirty rotten stinkin dog) gets damp, and back comes that smell.... its as persistant as skunk smell.

I bet he wanted a hug when he came back. Sam always likes to share by rubbing that stuff on me.
