Aye Mates,
A work in progress, t'is a rendering of a common goldeneye (often called a Whistler) gunning decoy I am doing in mixed media on Bristol board. The piece will be donated for a memorial scholarship auction as a tribute to me Fallen Brother Officer James V. Spignesi Jr., who was killed in the line of duty while conducting a foot patrol to combat illegal deer poaching activity. Our officer's association holds a fundraiser banquet and auction annually to sponsor a $10,000 scholarship at UCONN in tribute to Jim. Jim wad a graduate of the wildlife biology / management program at UCONN. This piece will be offered at auction on 4/16/16 at the banquet.
"WHISTLER FOR JIM". Note: T'is Jim's retired badge number 648 scribed on the ballast weight on the bottom of the
decoy.

Can't wait to see the finished product with such a great start.
Thanks to you and your work, Jim will never be forgotten. In years to come, in the silence, you will hear his Whistle on the wind.

Nice to see your at wk on a new one
Very nice Mike. Can you pm me the location so I can make a donation?
Barry,
Ye can go to Connecticut Conservation Officers Association - CCOA and go to the memorial page. The page will give some biographical information on
C.O. Spignesi and the information specific to to how to donate. In addition to the scholarship mentioned, we sponsor two scholarships at the high school level and do a number of other outeach programs to both law enforcement and military families that have lost loved ones to line of duty deaths, injuries, etc., and environmental conservation education efforts in tribute to Jim's legacy.
Barry, your offer of support is deeply appreciated.
Cheers,
Mike

POPTOP (03-05-2016)
Aye Mates,
Here is a more up to date look at the vintage goldeneye gunning decoy I have been working on. Shot holes, dents, scuffs, worm holes, sea salt related corrosion on metal anchor ring, all drawn in to give the decoy that special character shared by decoys that have been gunned over. The piece is starting to pop!
Common Goldeneye Gunner.

Look great Mike!
The decoy is really coming alive. I love the fact that you put Jim's badge number on the duck too.
