    $12,000.00 for Labrador Retriever.

My friend has a beautiful black English Lab Retriever she said she paid $12,000.00 for her. Could that be true?

Who knows. Why would your friend WANT to pay that much for a dog? Are you sure they didn't mean $1200?

Unless the dog has been fully trained to do something (in my case the dog would need to clean my house and cook all the meals) but I'm thinking hunting or as an advanced service animal, the price sounds way, way, way high. If it's just a beautiful specimen but not trained for anything, I wouldn't think that sounds right.

that was no typo: She told me $12,000.00.Bailey is just a pet & was easy to train but she is just a good old goofy Lab. She is not trained for anything special. Apparently she is from a breeder in Eastern US. I did look up the breeder but their were no prices listed.
    I didn't really believe her.

Unless that dog poops gold nuggets, I seriously doubt it

Well, if it is true (and I agree $1200 sounds more likely - maybe she misspoke?), then no offense, but your friend is an idiot.

Some people think the more they pay, the better they get. Some breeders who claim they breed those "special" colors of labs, silver, champagne, charcoal, etc will charge super high prices. I'm on the East Coast and that price is not the norm for a well-bred lab puppy.

But the dogs in that article are at least trained hunting dogs when they charge up to $12,000. Untrained puppies go for $1200-$1500 which is pretty standard.

Did she say she PAID $12,000? Or did she say she COST her $12,000? So far. More Vet bills yet to come? Sadly, that, I'd believe.

Don't suppose she told you the dog's registered name?
