Our Texas trip - last photos (probably)

I wanted to share a few more images from our trip.

This grackle caught a ride on the Bolivar-Galveston ferry. I'm sure he didn't pay the toll.

A photo of one view from the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute in West Texas.

A cactus at CDRI (I think it is in the Echinocereus family) in bloom.

Stella snuggling on a hotel chair that we draped with a sheet from home.

Faye took this amazing photo of a dogwood tree in bloom.

An ocotillo clinging to the rocks 250+ feet above the Pecos River.

Bluebonnets have the most amazingly beautiful flowers.

At an exotic wildlife ranch outside Fredericksburg, this camel was playing with . . . not a camel.

From a display at Fort Davis, information about and replicas of labels on 1800s era canned foods.

In addition to the other physical remembrances of our trip I collected several soil samples. From bottom to top:
    • Sand from the beach at Galveston
    • Soil from a trail in Austin
    • A sample of Hill Country soil
    • Outside the travel court in Fort Davis.

Thanks for sharing the additional pictures. While I've been through Texas, it was a very quick trip and didn't get to see all the good stuff. Love the idea of the jar of soil. Makes a very interesting composition. And of course, I love the pictures of the different flowers.

Fran, thank you. You saw good stuff when you went through Texas. Refresh my memory, when and where did you go through the Lone Star State?

Scoutpout, the jar is interesting and cool. It sits on the computer table; I look at it and think, we were there. It's a good remembrance.

Bamps, thanks! It was a great trip! I thought of you several times when we were at the desert museum, 'It must look a little like this in Arizona!'
