Finding a new vet when moving

For those of you who have moved with your furbabies, how did you go about finding a new vet in your new city? Our big move is in July, and we want to find our new vet sooner rather than later. Did you simply ask for recommendations? I hate to leave our current vet, but I don't want to be nearly an hour away in case of emergency

Have you started your new job yet? If so I'd ask your new coworkers for recommendations.

Are you staying in MN? If so, what city?

I'm pretty connected with sport/working dogs and vets in MN. Maybe I could check with someone already in your area

Ask your current Vet if they know of someone at the new location. I'm sure they would be happy to refer you, and they will understand why you asking.

^^^^i'd couch this like "we need to find a local vet you'd trust in case we needed something quickly"

I have two vets. One is nearly an hour away, but he's been my vet and friend for about 20 years. I use him for surgeries and bigger stuff. My other vet is five minutes away and I use her for little things like vaccinations, suture removal, an ear infection... It took awhile to find the new vet as I wanted to ask people I knew personally for their recommendations. You can always have two vets if you are that close to your old vet. Then give yourself time to find the new vet. I'm assuming you know where the closest and best E-vets are in your new area?

I would find a Facebook group for your new area like "Hugo MN online yard sales". I feel like EVERY area has them, and then ask for recommendations there. And second the new coworkers, and neighbors! But get all the preventative stuff done before then at your old vet if he's not due (annual exam and bloodwork, heartworm stuff)

I recommend at least getting some names of local vets in the areas and their specialities or best qualities. I recently moved and faced the need of finding a vet when unexpectedly my dog was injured...It would have been easier to have some-one already in mind.
