    It's Too Quiet Here

Didn't realize how much Mardi barked. With her canine cognitive dysfunction she would bark if she could not see me and I would go and pet her, chat with her, try to get her to join me wherever I was working in the house. It got to the point where even if she was in the same room and could see me, she would suddenly start barking. Got to recognize the signs when she was going to start up and go and talk with her. She would bark, bark, stop for a few minutes, then bark, bark, bark, repeat. Always started out with just two barks, then up to three and stayed at three with a few minutes pause in between. Only extremely rarely did she bark before this started.

Yes, it made life complicated with DH trying to sleep during the day, me trying to dash out to the store to get back quickly to tend to her. But d**m I miss her voice, her presence.

It's amazing how we become use to some of their idiosyncrasy and how we miss them when they are gone.
The simple things we take for granted.

It is amazing how much time we spend tending to them and how huge the void and awful the silence is when they leave. Sending you ((((hugs)))).

I remember when Noah passed and I was Labless for almost 6 months. The silence was deafining. My heart goes out to you Fran.
