    Oh. That's why.

Got a phone call today from one of the neighbors. They are forming a coalition to force the retired elderly man with the abandoned house to fix it up. So that's why they were talking to my husband.

    Good luck with that.

Your neighbors need to mind their own business!

Is the house in such a state that it might be a danger to inquisitive kids? We have to have fences around swimming pools in our own yards for that reason. We also have by-laws about how many derelict vehicles you can have in your yard, and for how long. There have been a couple of cases here where the neighbours got tired of looking at a junkyard and got that one enforced. YOur neighbours might have something going for them.

There are four other houses on our street that are literally falling down. Holes in the sides, plywood tacked up, you name it, and some of them have been that way for a couple of years so I doubt that there are by-laws. Come to think of it, we don't seem to have by-laws for much of anything. His isn't in that state but it looks abandoned. His hedge is so overgrown that you couldn't see through the first floor windows. There's mold and mildew and possibly bat guano on the outside and the paint is peeling off everywhere. They just want him to fix it up but he told me point blank that he doesn't have any money. I think that these guys are planning to sell. They're concerned about property values.

The irony of course is that they let their kids tear up this guy's yard with their motorized scooters so I'm not doing anything else with that. There's no point in trying to fix up something they're just going to destroy. These are the people too who came onto our property and let out my chickens as a prank and dismiss the idea that there are coyotes running around because they "haven't seen any" but they put out their cat to get killed when there was a bobcat around because they were tired of the cat. She did drugs and told everyone that I hated her when I'd only spoken to her twice then demanded that we prove our property lines because we told them it was unsafe for their kids to be riding down our driveway or messing around with areas that still needed to be cleared (which has since been done). Just nasty people. So I wouldn't put it past them to do petty things with the property to make it look worse.

Oh no, they sound like the worst neighbors! The good news, "they may be selling", I hope that is the case. They piss me off just reading about them, lol!

Our next door neighbour went about collecting, trying to, names on a petition to shut down the dirt air strip at the end of the street. A plane would crash and kill somebody, he claimed. The strip was there before we and most on the street bought our houses. I refused to sign. This man, the one with the petition, is the same one with the huge dog people had so much trouble with, he's a drunk and rowdy, some neighbours think he punched his wife and kids around, his one kid was the cause of many police visits. I made lots of brownie points with him when I told him I thought we were in far greater danger of drunk drivers on our street than of a light plane crashing. Then, guess what, a plane did crash. The man with the strip sold his last ultralight and the guy that bought it crashed into the fence at end of the strip, where at the time it met vacant land. Sheesh.
