    Follow me, I'll Show You

Conversation with a feral cat. Lots of obvious body language.

I still don't have decent video of Joey because he follows us around in the yard. I missed a really good one with Joey on the top step, Oban licking and nuzzling his ears, and Joey leaning into Oban and rubbing his head on Oban's face.

Anyway, Joey escorted me to the back to put a shovel away and then made me slowly one step and balance back to the house as he wound between my legs and I tried not to trip. Then he beelined it sideways to a spruce tree and looked back at me. It was plain I was to follow him and I knew why. I've been playing with him there with a long skinny stick. I drag it along the ground, Joey chases it and I try to entice him up into a little roofed stand the OH nailed up there years ago for the cats to sit on. Joey was plainly asking me to follow him to the stick and play with him. He's so cute, and this is a feral cat. We still can't pick him up but we are getting close. We can pet his tummy and his feet, parts a skittish cat usually is careful about. We worry about him crossing the road and following us when we go to the front yard. I worry he will break our hearts.

I just picked him up and got a snuggle! Yay. Only about 30 seconds, he started to feel stiff in my arms and I put him down but I got him right in close to me the way you all know you snuggle your cats and was able to kiss his head and ears. I was nibbling the back of his head and ears just before I picked him up and he seemed to like it which is why I went on to try a pick up. When I put him down all he did was lie down by my feet. Didn't run away scared or anything. I think he's been picked up before. The first time I picked Itty Bitty Kitty up she didn't know how to land and she fell over, Joey knew to put his feet out.
