    Mocha's first incident

I am out in the yard with Mocha and I hear the neighbor screaming for her dogs to come back. Here they came, into our yard. Of course Mocha went to say hello. I called him back and he stopped and the other dogs were around him. One was a little white dog and the other a yellow looking cur. After a few seconds of sniffing Mocha turned to come back and the yellow cur went aggressive. I am 100 feet away and the yellow cur's owner was closer. She has zero control over this dog. I broke into a dead run (not easy wearing Croc's). The cur kinda jumped on Mocha's hip but did not get a bite. I am screaming at the dog and the neighbor is screaming at her dog. Mocha came running back to me and the cur went home. The neighbor apologizing all over her self as she was going home. I am shaking from head to toe. I got Mocha in the garage and did the once over 10 times. I do mean all over, I had him laying on his back looked over every inch. He only had some spit on his hip from the cur. No blood not broken skin.

The cur never get out and is kenneled or kept in the garage all the time so I don't know why they have the dog. I am going to talk to them this evening when Mr. gets home and I have had a chance to calm down.

I hope this does not leave a bad memory on Mocha.

Oh no, poor Mocha. Okay, the lady has no control over her dog, she could at least keep him on a leash.

poor Mocha! We had a similar-ish situation when Bacon was about 6 months old. Another dog was loose, came to say hi to Bacon, then suddenly it was latched onto Bacon's back leg. The other owner just stood there with her mouth open, and Jake had to pry the dog off of Bacon. Then the other owner had the balls to get mad at Jake for "hurting and putting his hands on her dog". YOUR DOG WAS LATCHED ON TO MY DOG LADY!!!!! Thankfully no broken skin, and we don't visit that park anymore. Bacon was no worse for the wear. I think Mocha will be OK. Glad to hear no one got hurt and that it was resolved quickly.

I'm glad Mocha is OK! I bet your adrenaline was flowing! Bad enough out on a walk, but a neighbor? Sheesh!

Any way to fence your property? This happened to me / my dogs numerous times w/ an irresponsible neighbor w/ out of control dogs 18years ago (btw, they still have OOC unsocialized dogs!). It was the best money I ever spent and I have 5 acres... so not cheap! The rage that goes thru your mind when it happens makes you realize to what degree you are willing to go once your dogs are attacked (and that's the scary part).

I'm so sorry this happened to Mocha! I'm glad to hear it sounds like he has bounced back and is no worse for wear. Having been through this in a serious way once, and many minor ways other times (so many unleashed dogs here, and with Bubba being still intact they just run up to us and start fights) I think its a good idea for any new dog owner to think through what their approach is when this happens to their dog. That way, when the event occurs, you don't need to wait for your brain to catch up to you and you can just act.

My approach is similar to what yours was. If a dog just looks interested in a bad way, then I get between Bubba and the other dog and say very sternly "GO HOME" and point at their owners over and over. If the posturing and aggressiveness has already begun I yell "HEY" deeply and loudly and clap my hands very loudly. This usually startles the dog out of it and they go away or their owners catch up with them.

Sorry for hijacking your thread! This was more for others to read than yourself (since you reacted the way I do!), but I thought it was an important idea to put out there.

Poor Mocha but I bet his good nature will get him over this quickly. Your neighbour sounds like a good neighbour. A dog can get out once in a while, not good, but at least your neighbour tried to get them back, was horrified, apologized. Lots wouldn't.

So glad Mocha is OK. It's tough to have to be on the lookout for neighbors' dogs as well as coping with issues when out on a walk.
