    Arrow I finally made it!

    A dream come true!
I am on vacation this week. I have 2 projects: building another set of steps off the porch and a foot bridge over the spring on the back of our property.
Monday I am at Lowes buying my lumber. I am so happy! I have my haul of wood, sac-crete, bolts... I get to my truck to load and this "gentleman" comes and "offers" to help me load my truck for only $20.00. He did not work for Lowes. I might have been in the mood to give him a couple of bucks but the way he asked put me off. I told him Thanks but no thanks. To which he replied "ya rich pr$#k". I said THANK YOU! I have worked all my life to be a rich pr$#k now I have finally made it! Dreams do come true! He just walked off not knowing how to react to me!

Just the tip o' the iceberg with regard to the entitlest class that thinks they are owed just for their existence, unfortunately they are a growing mass in the USA. Good for ye in standing ye ground Mate.

I would have asked him why I would pay him when I can ask the people who work at Lowes to help me, and it would have been done for free.

Good chance he would have expected your money before he got started and then disappeared without doing anything.

I think most places forbid their employees from taking $$...I know the Home Depot around here does.

    Enjoy your projects!

A working vacation? If that's what you want to do, then it's a good vacation.

I'd definitely tell the Lowe's people about the incident. Sure they don't want that type of thing happening on their property. I'm not a big person but being a gardener, not much stops me from hoisting what I need to hoist, i.e. large plants, bags of dirt. If I decline help from the store, it's often that someone in the parking lot will offer help just as a nice gesture. I hate to say no because they are doing their good deed for the day and it makes them feel good. For money, no way!

I agree with how you handled it and with Poptop's suggestion to tell the people at Lowe's.

FWIW, when I lived in Topeka we had a Lowe's, Home Depot, and Menard's. I greatly preferred and favored Lowe's because the clerks were so helpful and nice.

I guess being rich is all relative. I hate those sorts of offers of "help". They can turn a satisfactory outing into an irritating exchange.
