    Training Challenge

Final layer of asphalt being laid this morning on our street. Lots of large trucks, the "tar baby" and huge roller vehicle. Took Archie out on the sidewalk and let him watch, smell, see. Could tell he was anxious but controlled. Took him back into the front yard, behind the fence and did some heel work, sits and downs. Instant responses although he did not want to stay in a down. Don't blame him; when the roller came by the ground shook. Proud of my boy handling an extremely unusual situation.

Good boy Archie. That stuff smells too, it must almost burn a dog's nose, very had to concentrate with so many new things going on.

Excellent. I think we often are blind to the training opportunities all around us. The world is full of distractions and life situations that we can use to expand our dogs' coping skills. Good job.

Very good job Archie-all that noise, the stinky smell and ground vibration are very unusual things and you did a good job. I think you need some special treats.
