Thor is swimming!

You've probably seen me post here in the past about my 'defective' lab who has shown absolutely no interest in swimming. He tolerates water and will splash around on a hot day or through a small stream on a hike, but he seems to find swimming unfun and a chore. We've tried every training technique recommended here and elsewhere and he just will have nothing to do with it.

Well, yesterday I was out weeding the garden on a hot, sunny, 90 degree afternoon. Thor was hanging in the shade nearby, and after a while I realized he had moved. Now we're on 10 fenced acres so I'm not too worried about him disappearing - he loves to explore the smells - but since it was so hot I wanted to keep an eye on him. I walked around the fence and there he was - happily swimming in the pond like he had been doing it his whole life.

I guess he just needed to do it on his own!

Hahaha that's awesome! You go Thor! Now you're going to have to fence the pond or else have a constantly wet dog.

It took many trips to the pond for Sophie to swim. I could see she knew what to do, it was just a matter of doing it. She still not super confident in the water, but she will do water retrieves. I'm sure now that Thor has experienced water, good luck keeping him out of it!!!! Way to go buddy!!!

Milo is also a defective Lab. He does NOT swim. I've tried several things and he seems to hate it. He'll splash around in the kiddie pool but will not go in water that is more than chest deep.

Maybe he just didn't want an audience. Nothing like a hot sunny day to entice a lab into the water. Go Thor!
